How have you adapted to life in the new normal?
It’s been interesting as there is a lot of adjustment that needs to be made, but I’ve been preoccupying myself with something fun daily.
What has been the biggest lesson learnt during the pandemic?
Number one is to save more, be more frugal. Be more proactive because I understand that it can feel a little bit sluggish when you are at home. But when you set goals every day, there is something to look forward to and work towards achieving. Also, work on your healthy being, and it will become a better day.
What is your secret to success?
Work hard and be very consistent in what you do and be passionate about it. Often, when people do something, they either want to achieve another level of success or financial sufficiency. For me, if you’re passionate about it, practise consistency and everything will come effortlessly.
Who is your role model? Whose career path do you hope to emulate?
Recently my niece introduced me to BTS. I know they have a huge fanbase! Their work ethic is on another level, and I admire how hard they work, and became from nothing to something. So, thanks to my niece and my nephew, I am now a huge fan of BTS. I like all the things they are doing, and they are very humble and I like that.
How do you achieve a work-life balance?
Work-life balance will be tricky if you’re working from home because you have your professional and personal life. As difficult as it is, you need to separate those two.
Meaning that if you have time to spend with your family, you need to make sure that you allocate time for them. Don’t merge it with your business because work is work. You need to set a timetable for yourself and then when you have all the things done, you will have the time to spend time with your family.
Understand, it’s not as easy, and it will take some time to get that balance. Once you have a routine done, you’re going to be okay!
What advice would you give to those who want to follow in your footsteps?
Like I said before, you have to be passionate and love doing it. Creating a new makeup style gives me so much joy. It’s my safe place.
Even if you compared me to 10 years ago to now, I think I’m the same person, and I just love what I have created. I’m interested in the colour stories, and you can see on my Instagram that my makeup looks are predominantly pigmented and bold.
What is your beauty routine like these days? What are your must-have products?
In terms of skincare, I have to say, the Pixi Glow Tonic is fantastic for the skin, especially during this time when the pandemic has arisen and we are all wearing a mask. This product helps to refine the pores.
Often, I’m using either a cleanser or wipes whenever I go out and remove as much makeup. I will make sure that there’s no breakout even when I’m in my best skin condition. But, if there is, the Etude House AC Clean Up Spot Patch is very helpful.
The Face Shop Yehwadam range is impressive too! Especially when you’re ageing, and you don’t want fine lines. It’s an affordable range too.
For makeup, I am inclined more towards Korean based makeup – glowing and dewy finishes. It’s a good balance, especially in this new norm.
But, basically, for skincare, most of the time, I do more than 10 steps. If I’m in a rush, I will stick to the essentials – cleanser, toner and moisturiser. When I have extra time, especially during the night, I will indulge in applying more than 10 products.
What are your goals for the rest of 2021?
To be happy. I know many people are going through a difficult time. If there’s any way that I can help them, I want to as I want to become a better person.
What is your greatest accomplishment in life?
I won’t say it’s my most outstanding achievement, but it’s nice that people acknowledge my work. When I started doing it in terms of makeup, many people didn’t understand it, but I’m so glad that the community is coming up and doing more. I have discovered so many makeup artists, and they are usually so young, and I get super excited about what will come up next.
