Anya Taylor-Joy, this writer’s favourite thespian, has won the Best Actress Critics Choice Award! It was in the category of limited series or movie made for television, for her work in The Queen’s Gambit.
To accept her award virtually, Anya was dressed in Dior Haute Couture by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Though she did her own makeup, the look was designed by Georgie Eisdell via a Zoom call.
Eisdell described the inspiration as such: “For Anya’s makeup design for the Critics’ Choice Awards, we decided on a beautifully simple, chic look. I wanted to design a look that was easy for her to do herself. It was a more structured look to offset the gorgeous and whimsical Dior Gown.”
To contour and shape the face slightly, Anya used the Dior Backstage Face & Body Powder No-Powder #4N on the cheekbone, forehead and jawline. For Anya’s cheeks, she used the Dior Rouge Blush #250 Bal on the apple of the cheek very lightly with a large powder brush and blended it back.
For the eyes, they decided to do a light wash of colour on the lid. To finish off the eye, Anya applied two layers of Diorshow Iconic Overcurl in Black on the top lashes. For the brows, the Diorshow Brow Styler #001 Universal Brown filled in any gaps and extended the brow slightly. Finally, for the lips – the main focus of the look – Anya lined her lips with the Dior Contour #943 Euphoric Liner and used the Rouge Dior Lip Color in #975 opera to get a beautiful deep pink.
