From fashion design to drawing, Fitri (better known as Fitrie) Roslan has always loved the subject of illustration since his student years in UiTM Shah Alam. But, he didn’t have a clear vision that this career would be a fantastic fit until the Covid-19 quarantine hit last year.

“I helped my parents at their food stall and used most of my savings to buy an Ipad. I learned about digital art last year, made something out of it and eventually, one of my artworks blew up. That’s what led me to this path,” recalls Fitrie.

What’s the inspiration behind the #myepporaya postcard design?

My inspiration is a shop front. I imagine all the crew members of Myeppo celebrating Raya in the studio, amidst a festive and colourful vibe! Everyone is bringing their favourite food for Raya because they want to have a mini potluck to celebrate together.

What was the creative process?

Generally, I will listen to music to get the mood to start doing a commission. As for Myeppo, I made a Raya playlist on my Apple Music and blasted it out loud through the speaker to get myself in a festive mood! Overall it was fun. I enjoy the colouring and detailing part because finishing it was very therapeutic.

During olden times, sending a card during Raya was a thing. Did you get a chance to experience those moments?

When I was in high school, I think 90s kids were the last ones that experienced exchanging and sending Raya cards to each other. I missed the excitement about reading the wishes! People were very creative back then, and thinking about the process, it takes lots of effort since nowadays everything is within a click of your fingers.

What does Raya mean to you?

Raya is the time for everyone, with our family and relatives, to let loose and bond after being away from each other. It is also an excellent time to share and exchange thoughts about what is happening at that moment.

What’s your grooming routine like during Raya?

I will always sleep early because I don’t want to look like a vampire in the morning! To keep my skin hydrated and glow during the festive morning, I’ll put a sheet mask on. I will also force myself to drink more water because we tend to consume lots of soft drinks, sirap and Raya foods, including the kuehs!
