How does one age joyfully? According to Ruby Siah, the Managing Director of Beaubelle in Asia-Pacific, it’s by embracing the philosophy of pro-ageing and that beauty is inclusive and transcends all ages.
“Beauty is no longer limited to youth but rather embraced as a timeless element,” says Siah. “My philosophy of ageing joyfully is to find the perfect harmony of body, mind and soul. For beauty is wellness, not just skin deep.” Here, she shares more words of wisdom.
How she started: “Beaubelle’s concept for skincare was it should not only be about skin, it should encompass wellness in terms of body, mind and soul. No one was talking about this concept in the 90s. In the last 10 years, I am happy to note that more and more people appreciate and acknowledge that beauty is about wellness. It was a very tough battle before and much education was needed to propagate this concept in the context of beauty.”
Important beauty tip: “In this unprecedented pandemic, most important is to curb stress and boost hydration to up the skin immunity. A very important element for our skin is water. Our immune system is highly dependent on the nutrients in our blood stream, and our blood stream is made mostly of water. With enough hydration, it helps to flush out toxins, ward off skin disorders and helps us to reset our hydration to strengthen skin immunity.”
Be proud of your age: “I would like to encourage all women to challenge the society norm and celebrate every age of your life. Getting older is inevitable. Staying healthy and feeling your best is important at any age. Ageing is the culmination of wisdom, discernments and life experiences. Life does not get better because you’re older, it’s just that you grow wiser and get better at dealing with how life works and appreciate the purpose of living.
Secret of success: “One must develop wisdom, discernment and emotional intelligence, as with these traits, you can manage yourself, issues and people around you better. Pursue your passion with laser focused attention and perseverance, success will definitely follow. Believe in yourself and not in following the crowds.”
Ultimate goal: “Personally, I would like to drive the pro-age movement and reaffirm to all women that they are beautiful in their 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s and so on. I want to impart the message that age is just a number.”
