Who’s going to take care of the earth, if not us, the human beings? But don’t be too stressed about the process. There’s a way to enjoy doing what you love but taking care of the earth at the same time.

Let me share with you five local beauty brands that uphold the sustainability concept while you can still enjoy pampering yourself.

LIPS CARPENTER

Founded in 2018, Lips Carpenter is here to offer healthy, sustainable, personalised lip care and cosmetics. They continuously put effort into incorporating sustainable and eco-friendly concepts through thoughtful packaging and providing products that use healthy natural ingredients.

Their bestseller product is moisturising and tinted lip balm. These lip products are stored in a degradable paper tube. All you need to do is push the tube with your finger while applying.

(A.) SKIN’S ANTIDOTE

If you love cleansing balm, you need to give (a.) skin’s antidote a shot. The brand is vegan, cruelty-free and locally crafted. Established in 2020, they believe in “minimalistic and luxurious” and “beautifully straightforward”.

Everything that they brought in can be seen as an antidote, simplifying yet enriching your skincare routine. The minimalism brand currently has two products on Instagram – Moisturizing Potency Oil and Cleansing Therapy Balm. They try their best to avoid using plastic, so you can see either glass or aluminium packaging being used.

LAVE REPUBLIC

Four good friends founded the LAVE Republic. They believe in science and a sustainable environment for future generations. Combining both knowledge, they established the brand with the only intention – to help busy people do the right thing!

Their solid shampoo and conditioner are package-free, and I heard it’s long-lasting too. One of the brand’s bestsellers is Rise Up Shampoo Bar for Hair Fall Control, an excellent alternative to your regular liquid shampoo!

HYGR

Pronounced as ‘hai-grr’, HYGR is a local Malaysian brand that focuses on the essence of nature. They use 100% natural, high-quality ingredients, handcrafted free from alcohol, paraben and stored in paper tube packaging.

There are two bestseller products for daily use – Smell Be Gone Deodorant and Natural Tinted Balm. Both of these products used a push-up paper tube that is recyclable!

KINDER SOAPS

Founded in 2009, Kinder Soaps specialise in formulating and producing all-natural, handmade bath and body care products. It all began when Michelle Ho set out to create natural soap for her eczema-prone daughter, and it worked!

All of their soap bars are handcrafted in small batches and are palm-free. Some of their bestsellers are DreamTime and The Mane Event; the former is an excellent soap for sensitive skin while the latter is nourishing for the hair and scalp. You can also purchase them with or without packaging.

We hope that this list of local Malaysian brands can help you be environmentally conscious. If not now, then in the near future.

On Myeppo Shop, BABOR is one of the brands that create sustainability targets outlined in their Green Agenda, focusing on three main issues – CO2, packaging and ingredients. Give BABOR a try if you want to treat your skin to understated luxury!
