Sharifah Shawati Syed Mohd is a woman who wears many hats, and strives to excel in whichever field she has her mind set on. “Never underestimate the power of belief,” mused Sharifah. “I’m a true believer of the laws of attraction. When I say I want to do something, I will do it.”
Her professions and passions are indeed varied: founder and executive director of Adamaya, positive image coach, author and fashion creator. In the following Q&A with myeppo, Sharifah reveals her personal and life goals, as well as her beauty routine.
What are you currently busy with?
I am now servicing a few companies as an advisor for business as well as media relations including being the media advisor to HRDCorp.
Apart from my training and consultancy services, my company Adamaya is also producing gourmet food products to supermarkets with a slogan ‘food for beauty’ focusing on health and beauty at the same time. My multipurpose chilli appetiser ‘Hottie In Spice’ represents a bold woman who knows what she wants, confident and fearless.
Besides that, I’m also involved in a women NGO The Iconic Women Club (Kelab Wanita Ikon) as the advisor for the pillar on mental health which fights for women rights and abuse matters as part of my CSR responsibility. I’m all about women empowerment.
I’m currently pursuing my Doctorate Degree in Business Administration (DBA) with OXCEL University UK. Something I had procrastinated a lot over the years and due to MCO I finally got down to it.
A typical day is Zoom meetings daily with multiple tasks, lots of writing and planning and thinking from 9am to 10pm including FB Live every Tuesday and Friday nights. I look forward to Zoom meetings because I get to don my working jackets and lovely tops. Regardless, I still put on makeup every day because I feel good that way. Dressing up energizes me. I even look forward to grocery shopping because I could jazz up my appearance and get out of the house for a while.
Saturday and Sunday are family time. I have a fixed date with my favourite Korean TV series Penthouse 1,2 and now 3!
What’s the biggest lesson learnt during the pandemic?
A huge sense of gratitude. I realised I had taken many things for granted such as the importance of going to the gym at the clubhouse when they were closed, the importance of taking care of your health and the value of life itself.
I get to spend more quality time with my kids and I took the opportunity to pursue my knowledge and upskill myself in many different things.
What is your beauty routine like?
I moisturise every day. I apply the facial mask every three days and serum for the skin. I eat chilli a lot because chilli is anti-aging and antioxidant. I do my stretches every morning and have lime and hot water through the day. Vitamin C, Fish Oil Omega 3, Probiotic and ginger tea too. Finally, the most important thing is I smile a lot because it produces happy hormones to appear youthful. Maintain a healthy diet of wheat bread and less rice and carbs but more protein and vegetables. A good night sleep to me is very important and I look forward to it at the end of the day.
What are your must-have beauty products?
I love scented candles in peppermint scent and aromatherapy diffusers from Maison Berger, Paris. I love collecting perfumes and body lotion. My favourites are Angel by Thierry Mugler, Truth or Dare by Madonna, TerraCotta by Guerlain, Memoir by Amouad, Soleil Blanc by Tom Ford and Extatic Tiger Orchid by Balmain. You can tell a woman’s personality by her perfume.
When you have free time, what forms of wellness do you indulge in?
I love singing and dancing. We have a karaoke machine that we purchased during the MCO and I do dance routines with my Gen Y kids on Tik Tok. I love going to the spa and having my regular massages but since it was not allowed during MCO, I enjoyed my hot bubble bath while singing.
Joke aside, sometimes you tend to feel trapped and you get anxious, this is when I practise my deep breathing. As an NLP master practitioner, I learned this during my NLP training to do meditation and self-hypnosis.
What gets you down? And what do you normally do to get out of a negative situation?
When I feel that I’m putting on weight it makes me anxious and when I’m not well. I handle negative situations well, maybe because I was trained and mastered myself. My principle is always to believe that the higher power will get me out of it and I normally find peace when I’m doing my prayers. I try to divert and slay my negative inner voices to being creative such as rearranging my closet or writing my dissertation or journals and watching TED talks on YouTube. I’m against ‘self-destruction’. Sometimes I chat with my friends overseas.

What’s your advice to those struggling with mental health issues during these uncertain times?
It is common nowadays that eight out of 10 people are experiencing this in variations of depth, so it’s nothing to be ashamed of. Instead, it is good to acknowledge this so we are aware of our state and find a coping mechanism that suits us.
Find your peace in doing things that make you happy and pray. You must tell yourself that it’s ok to feel what you are feeling because you are not the only one. Try to divert your thoughts into doing something constructive like learning new skills on the Internet. There are many free courses now available. Knowledge is power.
Join a community group that appeals to you. Get involved in their activities as this could open doors of new opportunities for you. It gets your mind working into something beneficial. If you isolate yourself, you will tend to feel that you are the victim of your circumstances and it will drown you in sorrow.
Connect with positive people who would encourage and lift you up. Remember, it’s not the end until YOU say so. Take care of yourself by eating right, grooming and hygiene and tell yourself only positive things. You will figure things out eventually.
What makes you who you are today?
My strong willpower is my best attribute. Discipline is my middle name. Passion is my drive. Faith in God and perseverance are my strengths. I believe in the power of dreaming. I orchestrated my dreams and imagined them a lot.
Never underestimate the power of belief. I’m a true believer of the laws of attraction. When I say I want to do something, I will do it. Some say I am a perfectionist and some cannot stand it. It’s fine with me.
They say ‘how you do anything is how you do everything’. I take pride in every task given to me and I work hard for it. My principle is always do your best and let God take care of the rest. I take life as an adventure to be explored and I’m happy and remind myself to be grateful to even the smallest miracles that happen daily.
What’s your advice to younger women who want to follow in your footsteps?
If you want to do something great, just do it! Just believe you CAN and trust me you WILL get there. You have the power within you to achieve anything but not everything at once. You have to be committed to the process.
What does self-love mean to you?
Being kind, caring and attentive to yourself and your well-being. Believing that you are a gift to this world and that you are enough. Nurture your mind with positive thoughts. Feed yourself with good healthy food. Pamper yourself with beautiful things. Take care of your physicality to feel energized and exude a magnetic aura. Be kind to yourself and stay away from self-destruction.
What do you love most about your job?
I’m a creative person so I love to create and I love meeting people. My credentials allow me to study behavioural patterns and understand others in different perspectives. I got to travel for my job to interesting places and managed to author and publish two books.
As a fashion designer myself, perhaps I may not be the most lucrative brand as I hope to be, but I did get to showcase my designs in New York, Paris Fashion Week and Indonesia. To me, what’s important is I created history for my brand Adamaya.
There were a lot of challenges, hustling and multitasking but I loved every minute of it; it was all worth it. Can’t wait to receive my Doctorate degree which is another big personal achievement for me.
I’m so grateful and blessed that I was able to go through all these unique multiple exciting journeys. The best is yet to come!
