Asked what she loves most about her profession, Sue Tan has this to say: “Working with creative people and being able to play different characters is a dream. It’s always fun to be someone else for a while.”
The Malaysian actor and scriptwriter, now based in Singapore, shares more about her personal and work goals….
What are you currently busy with?
I am currently busy with filming KIN, an English long form drama, which airs every week night on Ch5 in Singapore. A typical day would be spent on set working and winding down would most probably entail watching a TV show or movie or reading.
What’s the biggest lesson learnt during the pandemic?
I’m super grateful to have this acting gig during this pandemic as it has definitely made it easier to bear. Being away from my family and friends back home in Malaysia has been tough and my job has kept me going.
Personally, I have learnt to really try to see the silver lining and not to sweat the small stuff as much. It’s completely human nature to complain and whine about the things we have not been able to do due to the pandemic but it has also reminded me to take a step back and realise it could be much worse and appreciate what I have going for me at this time.
What is your beauty routine like?
In the morning, I use a cleanser, toner, moisturiser and sunscreen. At night, it’s the same routine as in the morning, with the addition of a treatment essence and a Vit C plus HA serum minus the sunscreen. I also have a routine of using a clay mask after cleansing then do my nightly ritual, finishing off with a hydrating sheet mask. This I do at least three times a week.
What are your must-have beauty products?
Missha Time Revolution Treatment Essence, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair, IT CC+ Color Correcting Full Coverage Cream+Hydrating and Anti Aging Concealer. For fragrance, I go for Jo Malone.
When you have free time, what forms of wellness do you indulge in?
Taking walks in one of the many nature parks here in Singapore, doing fun dance workout videos I find on YouTube and I have also recently started playing tennis. I find spending time with my friends a form of wellness as well…. they keep me sane sometimes!
What gets you down? And what do you normally do to get out of a negative situation?
At this point of time, it would be missing my family. Thank God for video calls! To get out of any negative situation, it helps me to talk to people about it. If I can’t find an immediate solution, I’d probably try to focus on the things that make me happy and keep doing those things.
What makes you who you are today?
The love and support from family and friends. This has given me the courage to lead my life, both in personal and career, the way I want to.
What’s your advice to younger women who want to follow in your footsteps?
Have more confidence. You need to take some chances and risks in life. Opportunities may be missed if you are always too scared to take that chance or risk.
What does self-love mean to you?
Being able to be with yourself and being happy doing it. Not worrying too much about other people’s opinions is also very liberating.
What do you love most about your job?
Working with creative people and being able to play different characters is a dream. It’s always fun to be someone else for a while.
